The transformation as a result of cataract surgery is simply astonishing, indeed life-changing! 🙂 Im still getting used to it, almost rubbing my eyes in disbelief, so to speak! 🙂 Its like having been reborn with a new set of eyes! 🙂 Dr. Brian Kim truly did an amazing job, for which I sincerely thank him!! :)Using both eyes I see very clearly now. Its liberating to get up in the morning, or from a nap, and immediately be able to see, then get going like regular people without needing to deal with contact lenses (as Ive done for decades), with a similar overhead at bedtime as well as various eye irritations throughout the day. I think the correction of my left (dominant) eye is basically spot-on, which was what I had most hoped for. So its making my vision great. 🙂 The right eye correction seems perhaps a bit less sharp, but of course its hard to tell exactly because of the central scotoma there, and the fact (as I understand it) that the ability to see detail is quite dependent upon the fovea, where I have macular degeneration. So it may be that the right eye correction is as good as can be expected, particularly since both the pre-op test and the ORA device agreed on 11 diopters. In any case, my right eye visual acuity is pretty good, maybe 20/40? Well know from my upcoming optometrist exam. It wouldnt surprise me if my left eye were 20/20! My overall vision in general circumstances, over a broad range of distances, appears to be excellent, and Ive had no problems with the recovery (used the eye drops on schedule). I may wish to get a pair of prescription driving glasses for extra keen distance vision, most helpfully at night and in unfamiliar surroundings.As for my near vision, its actually better than expected, certainly improved over contacts, with which reading glasses were almost indispensable. I find that I can get by without my over-the-counter reading glasses for checking my cell phone or using a computer screen for short periods of time, particularly since font sizes can be adjusted. For greatest ease at close range, especially with printed matter and/or for prolonged reading, I do prefer using the OTC reading glasses and will probably want to get prescription reading glasses for an optimal experience.Its also wonderful to behold the beautiful world in vibrant, natural colors without the yellow tint imparted by the cataracts (more significant than I had realized)! This is another not entirely anticipated bonus, really nice. :)Bottom line: I can indeed see the stars again, as I had desired! 🙂 Thank you for this gift, Dr. Kim! 🙂 This is the best vision Ive ever had without the aid of external lenses (glasses or contacts), in my whole life! 🙂 Im truly thrilled by it, and rather awestruck at the medical knowledge, surgical skill and instrument technology involved, all three. 🙂 I look forward to the pleasure of a dark, starry sky away from city lights, and am optimistic about the prospects, since the few stars that appear in my neighborhood are sharp points of light, not fuzzy or indistinct as they had previously become. Stars as they should be, once more! 🙂
